‘Ashgabat City’ To Be a ‘Smart City’

City administration of Ashgabat hosted a meeting on the “Ashgabat City” project on Sunday. Within the framework of the “city within the city” project, more than 200 buildings will be built on a total area of 744 hectares. It is planned to build 180 residential buildings from 12 to 35 floors for more than 107 thousand residents. According to the State news agency of Turkmenistan (TDH), the infrastructure of the new city will be built as a “smart city”.

The new city to be built in the northern part of the capital was prepared by the Municipality of Ashgabat and the Ministry of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan.

The “Ashgabat City” includes construction of the local government building (etrap khyakimlik) and other government agencies, four secondary schools for 3,000 students and four kindergartens designed for 1,200 kids, as well as the buildings of the Turkmen National Conservatory named after Maya Kuliyeva and the specialized music school named after Danatar Ovezov. “Ak öý” (yurt) will be built at the center of the new city as a local architectural symbol.

Under the new project, Turkmenistan will build 30-35 floor buildings for the first time. Newly developed technologies will ensure seismic resistance of the high-rise buildings.

Last month, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited city administration of the capital and inspected the construction of the new complex.
