President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks with President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Oguzhan Presidential Palace Complex in Ashgabat on Thursday.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed condolences to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and family members over the demise of Turkmen Leader’s father – Myalikguly Berdimuhamedov, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.
During the talks, the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan noted the importance of further building up cooperation in the trade-economic sphere and intensifying contacts in the humanitarian sphere, which is an integral part of interstate relations.
During the meeting, held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and trust, the Heads of States discussed the current state and prospects for the development of the Turkmen-Uzbek dialogue across the wide spectrum of areas, exchanged views on key areas of socio-economic development of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and plans for the future as part of the implementation of signed bilateral agreements, according to the report.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev also congratulated President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on his election as Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of the bicameral parliament of Turkmenistan - Milli Geňeş of Turkmenistan, the Press Service of the President of Uzbekistan said in its statement.
Due to the joint efforts in recent years, trade between the two countries has more than tripled, reaching $530 million last year. Over 150 joint ventures have been established, according to the statement.
The Presidents expressed their readiness to further promote the Ashgabat Agreement for creating an international transport and transit corridor, to ensure efficient loading of the China - Central Asia - South Caucasus - Turkey multimodal route and continue cooperation on the development of transport and logistics infrastructure.
At the end of the day, joint motorcade of Presidents Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived at the international airport of Ashgabat. Here, the President of Turkmenistan once again expressed gratitude to his Uzbek counterpart for his visit.
