Within the framework of the talks between President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon in Ashgabat on Wednesday, the government officials signed 19 documents on cooperation between the two countries in the political, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian spheres, the press service of the President of Tajikistan said in its statement.
During the talks, the Heads of States noted that the use of a wide range of opportunities in industry, transport sphere, the increase in international freight traffic by road and rail through Turkmenistan, the use of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport as a logistics center for transit cargo of Tajikistan will be in the interests of both sides.
The Presidents underlined the importance of deepening close cooperation in the transport and communications sphere for the development of international trade between countries and regions. In this regard, the sides noted the importance of further developing transport infrastructure, further improving the quality of transport services and creating favorable conditions for the functioning of all types of transport that carry out transportation between the two countries and transit through their territories.
For the development of political, trade and economic cooperation, the officials noted the necessity of measures to implement the Intergovernmental Program for Trade and Economic Cooperation until 2023, and to develop a Roadmap to expand trade for the next two years.
Following the talks, the officials signed agreements between the governments of Tajikistan and Turkmenistan on transportation, transit of goods and passengers, on cooperation in the transportation of oil products and liquefied natural gas, tourism policy, railway transport, production, culture and art.
“During today's talks, we examined in detail the state and prospects for the further development of bilateral relations within the framework of the Strategic Partnership Agreement. In this context, I would like to note the significance of the bilateral documents signed today, which significantly complement the legal basis of our relations, especially in the trade and economic dimension,” the Tajik President Emomali Rahmon said during the press conference.
The Heads of States also signed a Joint Statement and expressed their belief that the stable and trusting nature of relations between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan meets the vital and long-term interests of the peoples of the two countries, and also serves as a key factor in ensuring peace, stability and security in the region.
President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon arrived in Turkmenistan on a state visit on Tuesday, on the eve of the third Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia.
