President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on Friday in Istanbul took part in the summit of Heads of State of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (Turkic Council).
The summit, held under the theme "Green Technologies and Smart Cities in the Digital Age", gathered the heads of the member countries, the Secretary General of the Turkic Council and the Prime Minister of Hungary, the observer country in the council.
The summit participants discussed a wide range of issues focused on the future of the council, and made a number of significant decisions in this regard. An exchange of views took place on current regional and international political and economic events, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in its press release.
Speaking at the high-level meeting, the Turkmen President highlighted the special importance of this meeting. The Head of State said the entry of Turkmenistan into the council as an observer state is an important event, marking the beginning of a new stage in the country's interaction with the states of the Turkic world.
The eighth summit of the Turkic Council, at which the chairmanship of the organization passed from Azerbaijan to Turkey, resulted in signing of the Istanbul Declaration and numerous resolutions.
The council members also approved the Turkic World 2040 Vision, the decision on Turkmenistan's entry into the council as an observer state, as well as specified the statuses of partner and observer countries.
The Heads of States also decided to change the name of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States to the Organization of Turkic States. The decision was made in order to improve the status of the organization.
On the same day, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held talks with the Heads of Turkey and Kyrgyzstan on the sidelines of the summit.
