Turkmenistan, Turkey Ink Eight Documents on Expanding Ties

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks in Ashgabat on Saturday. The sides exchanged views on a wide range of issues of Turkmen-Turkish cooperation in the context of the implementation of previously reached agreements and long-term plans for the future. The meeting resulted in the signing of eight bilateral documents.

The documents signed in the presence of the Heads of State included an agreement on cooperation between the State News Agency of Turkmenistan (TDH) and the Anadolu Agency, Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) between the State News Agency of Turkmenistan and the Turkish TV and Radio Company, MoU between the State Committee of Turkmenistan on Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography and the Turkish TV and Radio Company, the official media of Turkmenistan reports.

MoU between the Türkmen Atlary (Turkmen Horses) State Association and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Turkey on cooperation in the horse breeding industry, Agreement between the Turkmen Government and the Turkish Government on cooperation in the fields of health care and medical sciences; MoU between the Turkmen Government and the Turkish Government on a joint Turkmen-Turkish secondary school, Charter of a joint Turkmen-Turkish secondary school; MoU between the Central Bank of Turkmenistan and the Central Bank of Turkey on cooperation; MoU between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey on cooperation in protocol matters were also signed within the framework of the meeting.

Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive ties with Turkey, the Head of State stressed, expressing confidence that this summit will result in strengthening interstate dialogue based on common historical roots, spiritual and cultural values of the two brotherly peoples.

The Presidents stated with satisfaction the dynamic development of the bilateral partnership. At the same time, the sides highlighted the usefulness of encouraging all contacts between the various agencies and private institutions of the countries to expand mutually beneficial partnership.

The Heads of State also exchanged views on a number of current issues of regional and international agenda of mutual interest.

The Leaders then held a press conference. Following the joint press conference, President Erdogan was awarded the Order of Turkmenistan “Hyzmatdaşlygy Ösdürmäge Goşandy Üçin” by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Expressing gratitude to the Turkmen President for this honor, Erdogan said he views this decision and the order as “a concrete manifestation of our developing relations in every field on the basis of mutual respect, understanding and common interests.”

In the evening, the Head of Turkmenistan gave an official dinner in honor of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
