President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev awarded Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty chamber of Turkmen bicameral parliament Milli Gengesh, the Highest Order of the Turkic World.
The awarding ceremony took place after the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) on Friday in Samarkand, the Press Service of the President of Uzbekistan said in its statement.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was also awarded the Highest Order of the Turkic World.
The special contribution of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Halk Maslakhaty Chairman Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to the active promotion of the interests and views of the Turkic countries in the international arena, strengthening the unity of the Turkic family was highlighted during the ceremony.
In addition, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov was awarded the Alisher Navoi International Prize.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Sadyr Japarov thanked for the awards and stated that the Samarkand summit was very fruitful for the benefit of our fraternal peoples.
The OTS, formerly known as the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council), was established on October 3, 2009. The members of the OTS are Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Hungary and Turkmenistan have observer status.
