President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the CIS Secretary General Sergey Lebedev, head of the CIS Observer Mission for the upcoming elections to Turkmenistan's Mejlis, on Friday, the official Turkmen media reported.
Stating that the March 26 elections to the national parliament, as well as to the local governments and self-governance bodies are a significant social and political event in the country, the Turkmen President thanked the Executive Committee of the CIS, CIS Secretary General for their participation in monitoring the electoral process.
Sergey Lebedev briefed the Head of State on the activities of the CIS mission, emphasizing that all conditions have been created in Turkmenistan for the effective work of international observers.
President Berdimuhamedov and the CIS Secretary General discussed the priority areas of cooperation, positively noting that the traditionally friendly interstate partnership is progressive and dynamic.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized the main fields of cooperation among the CIS countries, including the economy and trade, energy, transportation, communications, telecommunications, scientific, educational, cultural, and humanitarian systems, as well as the strengthening of cooperation to ensure peace, security, and stability in the CIS.
At the end of the meeting, the Turkmen President and Secretary General exchanged best wishes and expressed confidence that the fruitful partnership in the CIS format, built on many years of joint work, would continue to thrive, providing new and concrete content.
The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States Sergey Lebedev on Thursday.
