Russia and Eurasian countries are planning to develop the North-South international transport corridor on a large scale, the project of which includes the increase of container cargo deliveries by 15-30 times. Details of the project were discussed by the participants of the International Economic Forum "Russia - Islamic world: KazanForum," in Kazan, Tatarstan on May 18-19.
According to the press service of the International Economic Forum, the project can cover Asian, Persian Gulf, and East African states and change world logistics.
Eurasian Development Bank reports that by 2030 the volume of container transportation on routes of North-South ITC can increase to 11.9 million tons per year, and the total volume of cargo - up to 24.7 million.
In his speech at the forum, Marat Husnullin, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, noted that the North-South corridor develops along three routes simultaneously: the western route through Dagestan and Azerbaijan, the Trans-Caspian route, and the eastern route through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
Deputy Prime Minister added that the cargo turnover between Russia and Caspian region, South and South-East Asia, and the Persian Gulf through the North-South ITC should grow twice - up to 30 million tons.
According to the message, it is planned to involve up to 800 cargo vessels only in the Trans-Caspian route of the international transport corridor.
The North-South corridor is a multimodal route with a length of 7200 kilometers. The route connects Europe, the countries of the Persian Gulf, and the Indian Ocean through the Suez Canal.
