Iranian Parliament’s Energy Committee spokesman Malek Shariati Niasar in an interview with SHANA information network on Monday called for seizing the opportunity and swapping gas from Turkmenistan, Tasnim news agency reported on Tuesday.
The lawmaker has highlighted the potential of gas cooperation between Iran and Turkmenistan to turn the country into an energy hub and to meet the gas demand in its northern and northeastern regions.
A deal on Iran's gas imports from Turkmenistan is set to be inked in the very near future, under which Iran will begin importing gas this month.
Turkmenistan is the fourth country in the world in terms of rich gas reserves and Iran has the capacity of importing between 40 and 50 million cubic meters of gas daily from the Central Asian country, Malek Shariati added.
According to TASS news agency, the Iranian Minister of Oil Javad Owji stated on Wednesday that Iran, with the participation of Russia, Qatar, and Turkmenistan, aims to develop a gas hub in the Assalouyeh industrial district of in Bushehr Province on the northern shore of the Persian Gulf.
