Turkmen delegation will take part in the high-level political forum of the UN Economic and Social Council in July in New York, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Foreign Affairs Minister Rashid Meredov said in his report to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov during the regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday. The Deputy Prime Minister also suggested that Turkmenistan's second Voluntary National Review on the implementation of the SDGs be provided in the framework of this forum.
The Minister offered to hold a presentation of the city of Arkadag during the forum jointly with the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and the UN Resident Coordinator's Office in Turkmenistan.
Rashid Meredov proposed a round table in August to discuss the results of a forum on comprehensive measures in Turkmenistan for SDG implementation, with UN agencies represented. He also proposed allocating a platform with an SDG info database on the State Statistics Committee's website (www.stat.gov.tm) and Turkmenistan's participation in the 78th UN General Assembly SDG Summit in September.
The President of Turkmenistan approved these proposals and noted that the long-standing cooperation with the UN covers a wide range of areas and has great potential. President Berdimuhamedov has instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to continue the relevant work on a comprehensive and systematic basis.
The government meeting discussed socio-economic development of the country and reviewed draft documents.
