Turkmen, Afghan Energy Companies Finalize Negotiations on Herat Electricity Transmission

Officials of the Turkmen State Eectricity Corporation Türkmenenergo and Afghan energy company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) have finalized negotiations on a project to transmit electricity to the Nur ul-Jihad substation in Herat, the DABS said in its Tuesday press release.

The negotiations ended with the signing of a joint protocol between the DABS General Director and technical representatives of Türkmenenergo.

Within the framework of the meeting, the officials discussed various aspects related to the Nur ul-Jihad substation power supply expansion project, in particular, the exact start date of the project, projected costs, safety measures and insurance aspects.

According to the DABS, the parties reached a conditional agreement on various aspects of the project. As a result, some changes were made to the previous agreement and the contracting company was given time to prepare the necessary documentation.

In August this year, DABS highlighted the importance of the project to transmit electricity from Turkmenistan to the Nur ul-Jihad substation in Herat, noting its ability to address power supply issues in the northwestern are. In addition, the company supports the initiative to start the project immediately.
