Turkmenistan, in accordance with the program of development of the fuel-energy complex, is introducing environmentally friendly and resource-saving technologies at oil and gas, and energy facilities to reduce methane emissions, the country’s official media reported on Thursday.
One of the main tasks of this program is the complete modernization and launch of production facilities using innovative, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies and equipment.
Türkmennebit (Turkmen Oil) State Concern carries out measures aimed at reducing the negative impact on the environment. As a result of these efforts, nowadays almost all produced associated petroleum gas is effectively used for gas lifting crude oil.
According to the report, the State Concern plans to significantly reduce methane emissions through the introduction of innovative and energy-efficient technologies, as well as through the design, renovation and quality maintenance of existing infrastructure. In addition, it plans a comprehensive upgrade of the entire technological line of production. The implementation of these measures will reduce and prevent hydrocarbon leaks, as well as improve the practice of more accurate measurement of emissions.
In November 2021 at the UN COP26 summit in Glasgow, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov said Turkmenistan is committed to addressing environmental issues, in particular, to reducing methane and associated gas emissions during the development of oil and gas fields. Turkmenistan aims to achieve zero growth of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, and in the long term to significantly reduce emissions annually, both through its financial resources and with technical and financial support from international organizations.
