President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking at the meeting of heads of founding states of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), proposed to intensify work on improving the contractual-legal base of the Fund and defining its future goals and objectives, the official Turkmen media reported on Friday.
President Berdimuhamedov emphasized Turkmenistan's active support for initiatives put forward by the IFAS founding countries to strengthen regional cooperation in environmental protection and sustainable development in Central Asia.
The Turkmen President highlighted the importance of strengthening the Fund's collaboration with international financial institutions and donors to implement projects and programs addressing various issues in the Aral Sea basin.
The Head of Turkmenistan also called for the modernization of the Central Asian Water Strategy and proposed the establishment of the Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov stated that accelerating the process of development and adoption of international documents by the regional countries aimed at preservation and rational use of water resources is an urgent task.
President Berdimuhamedov also emphasized that the timely development and adoption of international documents by regional countries to preserve and responsibly utilize water resources is a pressing task. He called for increased diplomatic efforts and emphasized the need for joint actions in this area.
The summit concluded with the signing of several important documents, including the Dushanbe Statement of the Heads of States-Founders of the IFAS, the Decision of the Heads of States-Founders of the IFAS on the results of Tajikistan's IFAD chairmanship, the Decision of the Heads of States-Founders of the IFAS on activities to improve the organizational structure and legal framework of the IFAS, and the Decision of the Heads of States-Founders of the IFAS on the election of the President of the IFAS.
