Transport ministries from Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran, and Türkiye have collectively signed a protocol during a multilateral meeting. The protocol outlines plans to establish an international multimodal corridor connecting Asia and Europe via Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Türkiye.

According to the press service of the Uzbek Transport Ministry, the document was adopted on Friday in Tashkent within the framework of the 12th meeting of transport ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organisation.

The recently signed protocol provides for the organisation of cargo transportation from Asia-Pacific countries to the countries of the European Union through the territories of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Türkiye; the application of competitive tariff rates and creation of favourable conditions for cargo transportation on the railways of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Iran and Türkiye; joint development of measures on unification of regulatory and technical standards in the organisation of cargo transportation along the route; increase of transport interconnectivity of the countries of the European Union; increase of transport interconnectivity of the countries participating in the route.

In October this year, representatives of the Ministries of Transport and Railway Industry of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Türkiye participated in a videoconference, where they discussed important matters related to the acceleration of the signing of an agreement on the creation of an international transport corridor "China - Kazakhstan - Uzbekistan - Turkmenistan - Iran - Turkey - Europe".
