Mergen Gurdov, the Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, met with William Thompson, Head of the Eurasian Department of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), in Ashgabat on Tuesday. During the meeting, Thompson emphasised that the participation of Turkmenistan in the OECD Eurasian Week, scheduled for December 12-14, 2023, in Paris, is currently under consideration. Thompson also provided an overview of the event.
According to a press release from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan on Tuesday, William Thompson, Head of the Eurasian Department of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), discussed the legal provisions for the private enterprise complex on shared grounds. Thompson also highlighted the efforts of Central Asian countries in the fields of trade, economy, investment, and logistics.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the development of a mutually beneficial partnership between Turkmenistan and OECD, improvement of the business environment, attraction of investments, improvement of digital system and inclusion in the complex of this prestigious organisation.
Additionally, there were suggestions for Turkmenistan's involvement in the development and preparation of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor, a project involving Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Türkiye.
The OECD is an international organisation of economically developed countries that recognise the principles of representative democracy and a free market economy. The primary mission of the OECD is to contribute to the development of the world economy, to promote the economic growth of its member countries and to increase their contribution to global economic growth and development, as well as the advancement of other countries outside the organisation.
