Turkmenistan and Italy have signed two memoranda of understanding with the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority and the Italian railway network Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), announced the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport of Italy on Wednesday.
The relevant documents were signed in Rome during a meeting between the Turkmen delegation led by Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport of Italy Matteo Salvini.
As reported, the memoranda aim to enhance cooperation between Italian ports such as Naples, Salerno, Castellammare di Stabia, and the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, establishing maritime connections and collaboration in railway infrastructure and intermodal hubs.
In January of this year, Toyli Komekov, the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Italy, along with the President of RFI (Rete Ferroviaria Italiana) Dario Lo Bosco, the CEO of RFI Gianpiero Strisciullo, and the Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Italian Republic Eduardo Rixi, held a meeting to discuss exchanges of experiences between Turkmen and Italian companies in the construction of high-speed railway lines.
RFI owns Italy's railway network and provides signaling, maintenance, and other services for the railway system. It manages over 16,800 km of railway lines and more than 2,000 stations throughout Italy.
