In the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (starting March 2024), the volume of railway freight traffic through the Sarakhs border crossing on the Turkmenistan-Iran border increased by 30%, reaching 1,050,000 tons. This was reported by IRNA, citing Mostafa Nasiri, Director General of the Khorasan Province Railway.

Out of the total volume of foreign trade at the Sarakhs railway border, nearly 600,000 metric tons were transit goods, marking a 55% increase compared to the same period last year. Specifically, 526,000 metric tons of transit cargo came from imports through Turkmenistan, accounting for 78% of the transit flow along the Sarakhs-Bandar Abbas railway corridor.

According to Nasiri, 400,000 metric tons of goods exported to Turkmenistan were loaded in the Razavi Khorasan Province. This was made possible by the successful launch of a logistics center at the Shahid Motahari railway station near Mashhad. Iranian export goods were sent to Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, and other Central Asian countries, with cement and construction materials being the dominant exports, according to nCa.
