Nearly 5.5 million small ruminants, including sheep and goats, are currently grazing in the Murgab Valley. Of this total, around 573,000 belong to agricultural enterprises, while over 4.9 million are owned by private farms, according to Turkmenistan’s official media on Wednesday.
Given the availability of pastures and agricultural land, the majority of sheep are concentrated in five districts. Each of these districts supports over 550,000 head of sheep. Among them, the Takhtabazar district stands out as a leader, with over 1.4 million sheep and goats grazing on its pastures.
Currently, sheep-breeding enterprises in the Murgab Valley are focused on preparing feed to ensure the flocks are well-nourished for winter. Given the weather conditions, feed preparation will continue until late October and early November.
Seasonal mobile brigades are conducting the feed preparation across various livestock farms in the region.
