Turkmenistan Sees Opportunities to Strengthen Cooperation With SCO
Meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), October 16, 2024, Islamabad, Pakistan

Turkmenistan sees objective opportunities to intensify cooperation with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in key areas such as transport, communications, energy, trade, and investment, said Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov in his speech at the Council of Heads of Government of SCO on Wednesday in Pakistan.

According to Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, special attention was given to the implementation of joint projects, including the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

The Turkmen side also highlighted the importance of the "North-South" transport corridor, which runs along the eastern coast of the Caspian Sea, connecting Turkmenistan with Iran and India. This corridor is seen as crucial for strengthening regional trade.

During the meeting, participants discussed opportunities to boost trade and enhance business contacts among SCO member states. The Turkmen delegation emphasized that cultural and humanitarian ties also play a key role in fostering cooperation.

Meredov expressed gratitude to SCO member countries for their participation in the recent International Forum in Ashgabat, dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Turkmen poet and philosopher Magtymguly Pyragy.
