The UN General Assembly unanimously adopted the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia, initiated by Turkmenistan, during its regular meeting on December 2 as part of the 79th session. Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Foreign Minister, announced this during an online government meeting on Friday, as reported by official media in Turkmenistan.
In his report, Meredov emphasized that developing multifaceted cooperation with the UN plays a crucial role in Turkmenistan's foreign policy. At the initiative of the head of state, the country regularly proposes measures aimed at strengthening global peace, building trust, and enhancing international efforts in various areas. The adoption of relevant resolutions by the UN General Assembly confirms the relevance of these initiatives and their broad support from the international community.
On behalf of the government members, Rashid Meredov extended sincere congratulations to the head of state for this foreign policy success, wishing him good health and new achievements for the prosperity of the country, the strengthening of its international authority, and the well-being of the Turkmen people.
The National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, also congratulated the head of state on this event. The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty noted that the adoption of this resolution holds particular significance in a year declared in Turkmenistan as the Year of 'The Treasure of Wisdom of Magtymguly Pyragy' and in the lead-up to the celebration of the country's Day of Permanent Neutrality.
