The President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, held a phone conversation on Wednesday with Prime Minister of Iraq Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, during which the head of state of Turkmenistan confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to support the opening and effective operation of the Iraqi diplomatic mission in Ashgabat.

One of the main topics discussed was the successful implementation of the agreement to deliver 10 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Iraq via Iran under the SWAP scheme, as reported by the official media of Turkmenistan.

The Prime Minister of Iraq, in turn, expressed his readiness to continue strengthening the partnership, emphasizing the steps being taken toward this goal.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov also invited Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani to participate in an international forum scheduled for December 12 in Ashgabat, which will celebrate Turkmenistan’s 30th anniversary of neutrality and the declaration of 2025 as the "International Year of Peace and Trust."

Both sides expressed confidence that the development of the partnership in the gas sector would create new opportunities to deepen cooperation between the two countries.

In October of last year, Turkmenistan and Iraq signed an agreement for the supply of 20 million cubic meters of gas per day.
