Turkmenistan Weekly Review: New Projects, Stronger Partnerships
The “smart city” of Arkadag received the V.I. Blinnikov Gold Medal from the Eurasian Patent Organization for contributions to innovation and patent development.

A series of high-level meetings and economic initiatives took place in Turkmenistan over the past week, highlighting the country’s efforts to strengthen international partnerships and modernize key sectors of its economy.

Russia: Strategic and Economic Cooperation

On October 13, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin in Ashgabat. Talks focused on expanding Turkmen-Russian economic cooperation.

That same day, the 13th session of the Turkmen-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The sides signed several agreements covering education, agriculture, horse breeding, customs, and commodity exchanges, and reaffirmed their commitment to joint projects and Caspian regional initiatives.

South Korea: Industrial and Green Technology Projects

On October 14, National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov met with Jung Won-ju, Chairman of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd.. Discussions centered on “green” industrial projects, including the potential production of methanol from cotton stalks.

Daewoo has launched construction of a new fertilizer plant at the Turkmenabat Chemical Plant named after S.A. Niyazov. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov attended the groundbreaking ceremony on October 15. Once operational, the facility will produce 350,000 tons of superphosphate and 100,000 tons of ammonium sulfate annually.

UN Cooperation and Economic Modernization

At the Cabinet of Ministers meeting on October 17, the President Serdar Berdimuhamedov reviewed legislative initiatives, issues related to the modernization of chemical industry facilities, as well as preparations for key upcoming events, including the 32nd anniversary of the national currency and the International Conference and Exhibition “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan–2025.

The government also approved a new Framework Program for Sustainable Development Cooperation with the United Nations for 2026–2030. Turkmenistan welcomed the unanimous adoption of the Avaza Political Declaration at the 80th UN General Assembly session, following the Third Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

A long-term strategy for higher education development (2026–2052) was also adopted.

Kazakhstan: Regional Connectivity and Innovation

On October 17, President Berdimuhamedov met with Ghalymzhan Koishybayev, Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of Staff of the Government of Kazakhstan. Talks focused on trade, transport corridors, digitalization, innovation, and environmental cooperation.

Innovation Recognition and UNESCO Cooperation

The “smart city” of Arkadag received the V.I. Blinnikov Gold Medal from the Eurasian Patent Organization for contributions to innovation and patent development.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for UNESCO discussed future projects, including plans to create a national geopark and expand scientific cooperation.
