China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will start industrial development of the fourth phase of the Galkynysh supergiant gas field early next year, with a planned capacity of 10 billion cubic meters per year, said Maksat Babaev, Chairman of the State Concern Türkmengaz, during his speech at the Turkmenistan Oil and Gas International Conference (OGT-2025) on Wednesday in Ashgabat.

The project will be fully funded from state resources, Babaev added.

Turkmen gas is supplied to China and Uzbekistan, with China remaining the largest buyer. About 40 billion cubic meters of gas are delivered annually through lines A, B, and C of the Turkmenistan–China pipeline system. Following the launch of the fourth line, D, volumes are expected to increase to 65 billion cubic meters, strengthening supply stability.

The Galkynysh gas field remains a key driver of growth for Turkmenistan’s gas sector. As part of seven industrial development phases, the first phase has already been successfully completed, including the construction of three gas processing plants with a total capacity of 30 billion cubic meters per year, the Chairman noted.

The 30th Turkmenistan International Oil and Gas Conference and Exhibition (OGT-2025) will continue through October 24.
