Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan are strategically positioned to play an active role in the regional and global energy transition, said SOCAR President Rovshan Nadzhaf during his speech at the Turkmenistan Oil and Gas International Conference (OGT-2025) on Wednesday in Ashgabat.
Nadzhaf highlighted rapid changes in the global energy market, noting that many countries are setting net-zero emission targets. Against this backdrop, natural gas demand is rising faster than other fuels, while a declining reliance on coal positions gas as a cleaner and more reliable alternative.
He described gas as a key “bridge” fuel in the shift toward low-carbon energy, advancing both environmental progress and energy security. Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, he said, has strategic importance.
SOCAR is Azerbaijan’s state oil company, engaged in oil and gas production, processing, and transportation, marketing petroleum products domestically and abroad, and supplying natural gas to industry and households.
