State concern Turkmengaz is negotiating with China’s CNPC on the second phase of development at the Galkynysh gas field. Discussions on the third phase are underway with ADNOC, Turkmengaz Chairman Maksat Babaev said at a press conference following the International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan” (OGT-2025) in Ashgabat.

The second phase is expected to produce 30 billion cubic meters of commercial gas per year, while the third phase aims for 33 billion cubic meters annually, Trend reported Friday.

Babaev noted that Turkmengaz continues to implement key projects in the gas sector, including further development of Galkynysh and participation in the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan–India (TAPI) pipeline construction.

The chairman added that the state concern is focused on developing gas-chemical production to substitute imports and expand export potential.

The TAPI project is in the technical survey stage. Framework agreements have been signed with the governments of participating countries, and intergovernmental documents have been prepared. The first 150-kilometer section of the pipeline in Afghanistan, leading to the city of Herat, has been under construction since September last year, Babaev said.

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) will start industrial development of the fourth phase of the Galkynysh supergiant gas field early next year, with a planned capacity of 10 billion cubic meters per year.
