Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Monday participated in an informal meeting of the heads of the Commonwealth of Independent States in St. Petersburg, the Russian President’s press service reported.
The event was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, and Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Putin expressed Russia’s readiness to support Turkmenistan during its chairmanship of the CIS in 2026, saying Moscow is prepared to provide necessary assistance to Turkmen colleagues, who will assume the CIS chairmanship on Jan. 1.
CIS leaders discussed key directions for the bloc’s development and outlined further steps to strengthen practical cooperation, the Kazakh President’s press service reported.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on current issues of cooperation among CIS member states.
During Turkmenistan’s chairmanship, a session of the Council of CIS Heads of Government is planned to be held in Ashgabat.
