Turkmenistan’s President Appoints New City and District Heads

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov on Friday dismissed and appointed a number of city and district governors during an expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers, according to Turkmenistan’s official media.

Charygeldy Charlyyev was relieved as governor of the Gokdepe district in Ahal province, with Nurberdi Kakabayev appointed to the post. Kakabayev previously served as deputy chairman of the Turkmenobahyzmat state association. In the Tejen district, Guvanch Yazmyradov was dismissed for improper performance of duties, and Kerven Charyyev was named as his replacement.

In Balkan province, Didar Meredov was relieved as governor of the Magtymguly district due to a transfer to another job. Meylis Mergenov, formerly governor of the Turkmenbashi district, was appointed to the post. Abdyrahman

Babaniyazov was named governor of the Turkmenbashi district, replacing Mergenov. Ashyrmyrat Ovezov was dismissed as governor of the Bereket district, with Akmammet Garajayev appointed. Amangeldy Isaev was relieved as governor of the city of Turkmenbashi, and Niyazjan Niyazjanov was appointed.

In Dashoguz province, Baymyrat Khandurdyyev was dismissed as governor of the Shavat district, and Merdan Orayev was appointed.

In Lebap province, Guvanch Bazarov was relieved as governor of the city of Turkmenabat. Erkin Achylov, previously head of the Hojambaz district, was appointed. Azat Amandurdyyev was dismissed as governor of the Darganata district, with Begench Mamedbayev named as his replacement. Ilyas Ovezov was relieved as governor of the Koytendag district, and Rustam Allaberdyev was appointed.

In Mary province, Kakageldi Saryyev was dismissed as governor of the city of Mary. Artyk Bashimov, previously a deputy governor, was appointed. Muhammetdurdy Mamiyev was relieved as governor of the Yoloten district, and Shagylych Berdiyev, formerly a deputy governor of the province, was named to the post. Maksat Amanmyradov was dismissed as governor of the Mary district, with Maksatmyrat Saparmuradov appointed.

The Cabinet meeting also reviewed results for 2025, heard reports from deputy prime ministers, ministry heads and provincial governors, and discussed social and economic priorities for 2026 along with personnel matters.
