About 150 families moved into new apartment buildings in the cities of Turkmenabat and Kerki in eastern Turkmenistan’s Lebap Province in 2025, the newspaper Türkmen Gündogary reported Thursday.

More than 95,000 square meters of housing were built and commissioned in the region last year under a presidential program, the report said.

President Serdar Berdimuhamedov told a government meeting that more than 900,000 square meters of housing are planned to be built and commissioned nationwide in 2026. He stressed the importance of strict oversight of the construction of housing, hospitals and other social facilities in the provinces.

Officials also said key projects aimed at improving living standards in Lebap Province include the commissioning of the Mary–Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway and the opening of a new complex of buildings for the Turkmen State Pedagogical Institute named after Seyitnazar Seydi.
