2025: Cargo Throughput at Turkmenistan’s Border Reaches 20 Million Tons

Cargo traffic through checkpoints along Turkmenistan’s state border reached 20 million tons in 2025, indicating steady growth in foreign trade turnover and transit shipments through the country.

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan said Thursday that transit cargo volumes exceeded 7 million tons, an increase of 28% compared with 2024. During the year, goods transited Turkmenistan en route to 108 countries.

According to the statement, the structure of foreign trade and transit shipments was as follows: road transport accounted for 43%, rail for 27%, maritime transport for 28% and air transport for 2%.

The service also reported that exports of food products from the country increased by 30% in 2025.

The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan is a central executive authority responsible for implementing state policy in customs regulation, fulfilling Turkmenistan’s international obligations on customs matters, and combating smuggling and other crimes and administrative offenses in the customs sphere.
