Turkmenistan’s ambassador to Italy and permanent representative to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, Toyly Komekov, met Wednesday in Rome with FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu. The sides exchanged views on implementation of the Country Programming Framework for 2026–2030.

According to the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Italy, the document will focus on climate change adaptation, water resources management and innovation.

The Turkmen diplomat expressed the country’s intention to expand effective cooperation aimed at applying global best practices in sustainable agricultural development and strengthening measures to ensure food security.

The FAO director-general praised Turkmenistan’s active role in international efforts to protect the environment, promote the rational use of natural resources and ensure food security. He said the organization’s leadership is ready to support Turkmenistan’s initiatives within the framework of cooperation.

Earlier, in January 2026, Turkmenistan and the FAO signed an agreement to establish an FAO representation office in the country and provide technical assistance.
