Turkmenistan’s Top Diplomat Holds Talks With UK Counterpart in London
Meeting of Rashid Meredov with Yvette Cooper, Feb. 26, 2026, London, United Kingdom

Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs Yvette Cooper on Feb. 26, 2026, at Lancaster House.

The talks identified priority areas for bilateral cooperation, including economic engagement with a focus on green technologies, digitalization and transport, as well as the expansion of cultural and humanitarian ties, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said.

The sides confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening the Turkmen-UK partnership and discussed prospects for organizing high-level visits. Several bilateral documents were signed at the conclusion of the meeting.

Later the same day, at the initiative of the UK foreign secretary, a working lunch was held for the foreign ministers of Central Asian countries and the United Kingdom.

Participants exchanged views on regional cooperation, security and sustainable development, as well as interregional and bilateral ties.

Addressing the meeting, Meredov presented specific proposals to expand practical cooperation, including the launch of joint educational programs and the creation of a new Turkmenistan–United Kingdom Cultural Dialogue format. The importance of supporting Afghanistan’s peaceful development through infrastructure projects was also underscored, including the TAPI gas pipeline, power transmission lines and railway construction toward Afghanistan.

Discussions also noted that expanding technical and advisory cooperation involving British legal and consulting firms, along with the introduction of digital solutions, would help enhance transparency in cross-border trade.
