Russia, Uzbekistan Arrange Transit for Citizens Departing Iran via Turkmenistan
Ashgabat, Turkmenistan

Russia and Uzbekistan have taken steps to organize overland transit for citizens departing Iran through Turkmenistan amid restrictions on air travel, diplomatic authorities said.

The Russian Embassy in Iran said an overland exit procedure via Turkmenistan has been arranged for Russian citizens unable to depart on direct flights. To coordinate passage with the Turkmen side, Russian nationals are required to submit a set of documents to the Russian Embassy in Iran.

At present, five border crossings in Turkmenistan are operating for the evacuation of foreign nationals from Iran — Sarahs, Artyk–Lotfabad, Gaudan–Bajgiran, Akyayla–Incheborun and Altyn Asyr–Incheborun — the Russian Embassy in Ashgabat said.

Uzbekistan is also providing assistance to its citizens transiting from Iran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan said the Uzbek Embassy in Ashgabat is coordinating with Turkmenistan’s Foreign Ministry and relevant authorities and remains in constant contact with Uzbekistan’s diplomatic mission in Iran.

Embassy staff will meet Uzbek citizens at the Turkmen-Iranian border. Vehicles from the Uzbek diplomatic mission in Ashgabat are being used to ensure safe and organized transit.
