National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a visit to the Republic of Austria, held talks with Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency Rafael Grossi, focusing on preparations for a new Country Programme Framework for 2026–2030, official Turkmen media reported on Saturday.

The sides noted that the document will define priority areas of technical cooperation, including the introduction of innovative technologies in nuclear medicine, the development of diagnostic and treatment practices, and improving safety standards across various sectors of the economy.

Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed that Turkmenistan consistently adheres to the use of nuclear energy exclusively for peaceful purposes and actively participates in international mechanisms to ensure radiation safety.

Particular attention was given to cooperation in healthcare. With IAEA support, modern diagnostic and treatment methods are being introduced in Turkmenistan, while consultations with international experts are contributing to improving the quality of medical services and strengthening disease control systems.

National Leader of the Turkmen people proposed considering the possibility of holding a high-level regional forum in Ashgabat dedicated to key milestones related to the establishment of the Central Asian Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone and Turkmenistan’s accession to the IAEA.

At the end of the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening cooperation, expressing confidence that it will contribute to peace, stability and sustainable development.
