National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during a visit to the Republic of Austria, held separate meetings with Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Gerd Müller and UN Deputy Secretary-General Rabab Fatima, official Turkmen media reported Saturday.

Meeting with UNIDO Director-General Gerd Müller:

During the meeting, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted interest in technical cooperation within the framework of the second phase of the Arkadag “smart” city project.

The UNIDO Director-General emphasized that the creation of a medical cluster in Arkadag is a clear example of the successful introduction of high technologies and industrial capabilities into the healthcare system, noting that this large-scale project is based on the extensive long-term experience of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan in the medical field.

The sides also discussed issues on the climate agenda. Berdimuhamedov confirmed Turkmenistan’s readiness to consider developing and implementing a Cooperation Roadmap with UNIDO for 2026–2030 in the field of green industrial transition and climate action.
Meeting with UN Deputy Secretary-General Rabab Fatima:

Rabab Fatima noted that the important initiatives put forward by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan at the International Vienna Energy and Climate Forum are closely linked to key UN goals and objectives, primarily ensuring global peace, stability and security, as well as achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The national leader warmly greeted Rabab Fatima, conveyed best wishes to the UN Secretary-General, and emphasized that Turkmenistan is consistently developing multifaceted cooperation with authoritative international organizations, including the United Nations and its specialized agencies.

In addition, during the visit to Austria, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan outlined Turkmenistan’s position on the situation in the Middle East and the risks of its spillover into the Caspian region.
