Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Kazakhstan on Tuesday for a two-day working visit, the Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

The visit aims to participate in a Regional Environmental Summit in the country’s capital, as well as in a meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the founding members of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

On the occasion of the high-level visits, national flags of participating countries were raised and an honor guard was formed at Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport. The Turkmen head of state was welcomed by Kazakh officials and members of the Turkmen delegation.

During the upcoming summits, key issues related to strengthening regional cooperation to achieve sustainable development in Central Asia will be discussed, along with ways to address environmental, climate and water challenges in the region. The Turkmen president is expected to deliver remarks outlining the country’s position and, together with leaders of friendly states, visit a specialized environmental exhibition.

The Regional Environmental Summit (RES 2026) is being held for the first time at the initiative of Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The event aims to bring together Central Asian leaders on a single platform to develop joint solutions to combat climate change in cooperation with the United Nations.
