Turkmenistan and Cambodia are considering the possibility of launching direct air services between Ashgabat and major tourist destinations in Cambodia. The issue was discussed during a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov and Cambodian Minister of Tourism Huot Hak on Saturday in Phnom Penh, according to the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia.

The two sides discussed prospects for opening flights on the Ashgabat–Phnom Penh and Ashgabat–Siem Reap routes, as well as expanding cooperation in the tourism sector. Particular attention was given to organizing familiarization trips for investors, media representatives, and tourism companies from both countries, jointly promoting tourism potential, and increasing high-level visits.

According to the Ministry of Tourism of Cambodia, the sides also discussed accelerating the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on tourism cooperation between the relevant agencies of the two countries.

Ahmet Gurbanov confirmed Turkmenistan’s interest in strengthening cooperation with Cambodia, highlighting Turkmenistan’s cultural and historical sites included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as the potential for medical tourism.

During the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Phnom Penh on May 8–9, a series of meetings was held with representatives of the Cambodian government and business community, including talks with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia It Soph ea and President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce Kith Meng.
