National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov gifted two Turkmen Alabai puppies to Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov, the official press service of the Tatarstan head reported Saturday.

The puppies were born in March and were named Alabai and Aladzha. Certificates for the puppies were presented to Rustam Minnikhanov by Batyr Rejepov, vice president of the International Association “Türkmen alabaý itleri.”

According to the report, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited Kazan last week to participate in KazanForum, where he was shown Ak Dost, a grown Turkmen Alabai previously gifted to the head of Tatarstan. Following the visit, a decision was made to present Tatarstan with two more Turkmen Alabai puppies.

Rustam Minnikhanov expressed gratitude to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and emphasized his special respect for the Turkmen people. The Rais of Tatarstan also thanked President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the brotherly Turkmen people for their special attitude toward Tatarstan.

The Turkmen Alabai is considered a national symbol and treasure of Turkmenistan. The history of the breed, regarded as one of the world’s oldest dog breeds, dates back more than 4,000 years.
