Malaysian national oil and gas company PETRONAS is exploring opportunities to participate in prospective gas projects in Turkmenistan, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said, according to Bloomberg, at a Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition event held on Saturday during preparations for the 16th Johor state elections.

According to Malaysian Prime Minister, a Malaysian delegation is scheduled to visit Turkmenistan in mid-June to discuss further development of cooperation in the energy sector. The Prime Minister also expressed readiness to join the negotiations.

Anwar noted that engagement with Turkmenistan could open new opportunities for PETRONAS in one of the world’s largest gas-producing regions. He stressed that strengthening this partnership aligns with Malaysia’s energy security interests and supports the country’s position in the global energy market.

Turkmenistan, which holds some of the world’s largest natural gas reserves, is actively expanding international cooperation in the energy sector and attracting foreign partners to implement major gas projects.
