Two new pumping stations, No. 21 and No. 22, have been commissioned in the Geoktepe district of Ahal province to improve water supplies for agricultural land, Turkmen state media reported on Wednesday.

According to editor and presenter at the Ýaşlyk television and radio channel Chary Charyyev, Pumping Station No. 21 was built at the 828th kilometer of the Karakum River and includes a 16-megawatt electrical substation. The facility is equipped with eight high-pressure pumps manufactured by Germany’s KSB, including six operational units and two reserve units. The pumps have a capacity of between 850 and 1,200 liters of water per second. Innomotiks electric motors operating on VFD technology are used to reduce energy consumption and improve efficiency.

Pumping Station No. 22 is located about seven kilometers southwest of the first facility. Under the project, water from the Karakum River is delivered to the station through pressurized pipelines and then supplied to agricultural fields situated 130 meters above the riverbed. The station is equipped with 10 pumps, including seven operational and three reserve units and a 10-megawatt electrical substation. The project also included the installation of steel water pipelines with diameters ranging from 325 mm to 1,220 mm.

According to the report, the project is expected to introduce a digital water-saving irrigation system across 6,198 hectares of agricultural land. Solar panels have also been installed to provide electricity for irrigation equipment and support uninterrupted operation of the system.
