Turkmenistan continues developing major gas sector projects, including the development of the Galkynysh field, projects in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea and the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline. These and other areas will be included in the agenda of the 31st International Conference and Exhibition OGT 2026, which will be held in Ashgabat on October 21-23, according to TEF.
The state’s long-term strategy includes the responsible development of natural resources, diversification of export routes, introduction of modern technologies and the creation of conditions to attract foreign investment.
Further development of the Galkynysh gas field, one of the world’s largest gas deposits, remains one of the key projects. The implementation of the fourth stage of development envisages expanding production capacities and infrastructure, while also creating new opportunities for EPC contractors, engineering companies, technology suppliers and service organizations.
At the same time, Turkmenistan is developing projects in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. In particular, this includes cooperation with PETRONAS on offshore blocks 19 and 20, as well as additional seismic exploration work. This year, Turkmenistan and China marked the 20th anniversary of cooperation in the gas sector, while Turkmenistan and PETRONAS celebrated the 30th anniversary of their partnership.
The implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project is also continuing and upon completion it is expected to become one of the region’s largest infrastructure projects. Alongside the development of hydrocarbon production, Turkmenistan is also investing in gas processing, petrochemicals, transport infrastructure, digital technologies and modern engineering solutions.
According to the forum organizers, these areas will be discussed during OGT 2026. As traditionally, the forum will bring together representatives of government agencies, national and international energy companies, investors, financial institutions, engineering organizations and technology providers to discuss investment opportunities, offshore field development, gas processing, digital transformation, the introduction of artificial intelligence technologies, methane emission reduction and the development of international energy cooperation.
