Kristin Hawkins has been appointed chargé d'affaires of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Turkmenistan, the U.S. Embassy in Ashgabat reported on  Monday. She succeeds U.S. Ambassador Elizabeth Rood, who has completed her diplomatic assignment in the country.

During her tenure in Turkmenistan, Rood built strong partnerships and strengthened bilateral cooperation across a range of areas, according to the embassy. “We thank her for her service to the diplomatic mission and for her contribution to advancing U.S.-Turkmen relations,” the embassy said.

The United States reaffirmed its commitment to further deepening comprehensive cooperation with Turkmenistan.

Elizabeth Rood, a career diplomat with the rank of Minister-Counselor, has served as U.S. ambassador to Turkmenistan since July 2024.
