Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh Malvajerd held a meeting on Monday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan as co-chairs of the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, discussing prospects for trade, economic and bilateral cooperation, Turkmenistan's Foreign Ministry reported
During the meeting, the sides reviewed the current state and future prospects of Turkmen-Iranian cooperation both bilaterally and within international organizations, including the United Nations. They emphasized that relations between the two countries are based on principles of good-neighborliness and mutual respect.
The sides also focused on trade and economic cooperation and exchanged views on further strengthening the role and importance of the Turkmen-Iranian Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation.
During the talks, the Iranian side congratulated Turkmenistan on the adoption by the UN General Assembly of the resolution 2028 — International Year of International Law, initiated by Turkmenistan wich Iran also serving as a co-author.
Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their mutual interest in further developing effective Turkmen-Iranian cooperation across a wide range of areas of shared interest.
