Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Swiss Vice President, Chairperson-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis on Wednesday, Turkmen state media reported.

During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE, as well as prospects for its further development. The President noted the constructive nature of the partnership, emphasizing that the annual cooperation programs jointly developed by the Government of Turkmenistan and the OSCE Centre in Ashgabat are being implemented consistently.

Turkmenistan attaches great importance to strengthening international cooperation to promote peace and sustainable development at the regional and global levels. Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the country is ready to continue cooperation with the OSCE in the fields of human rights, the development of democratic principles and the study of international best practices in these areas.

The President highlighted favorable conditions for expanding cooperation in such areas as ensuring secure and reliable energy supplies to global markets, sustainable economic growth, transport, environmental protection and the rational use of water resources.

The sides also discussed the development of bilateral cooperation between Turkmenistan and Switzerland in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields. Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed Turkmenistan’s readiness to consider specific proposals from the Swiss side and congratulated Ignazio Cassis and the people of Switzerland on the country’s recently celebrated National Day.

Ignazio Cassis praised Turkmenistan’s initiatives to promote international cooperation and reaffirmed Switzerland’s interest in further expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan, including within the framework of the OSCE.

The same day, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Swiss Vice President, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office and Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis. The sides discussed promising areas for further cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE.
