Tehran Hosts Conference Marking Caspian Sea Day

A conference dedicated to Caspian Sea Day was held August 11, 2026, at Iran’s Department of Environment, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Iran reported.

Iranian Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment Shina Ansari, senior officials from the Foreign Ministry, members of parliament, ambassadors of the Caspian littoral states accredited in Tehran, as well as governors of Golestan and Gilan provinces attended the event.

The participants discussed issues related to preserving the Caspian Sea’s ecological condition and protecting its environment.

During the event, the Turkmen ambassador noted that under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, issues related to the Caspian Sea are among the important areas of the country’s foreign policy. He also emphasized Turkmenistan’s commitment to developing international cooperation on protecting the Caspian Sea environment and strengthening cooperation among the Caspian littoral states, including within the framework of the United Nations.

It was also noted that a meeting of heads of state on the environmental issues of the Caspian Sea is planned for Oct. 9, 2026, at the Avaza National Tourist Zone.

At the end of the event, confidence was expressed that the international meeting would serve as an effective platform for discussing issues related to protecting the Caspian Sea and ensuring sustainable development in the region. They also expressed gratitude to the Government of Turkmenistan for its initiative to host the meeting at the Avaza National Tourist Zone.
