Turkmenistan’s Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov held meetings Aug. 12 with heads of several international organizations and foreign missions, discussing migration, regional security, environmental sustainability, protection of the Caspian Sea and further international cooperation, the Foreign Ministry reported.
During a meeting with Serhan Aktoprak, Head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) mission in Kazakhstan and IOM Central Asia coordinator, the sides discussed priority areas of cooperation, including migration management, protection of migrants’ rights and regional cooperation.
Meredov also met with William Leaf, Head of the OSCE Center in Ashgabat. They discussed key areas of cooperation between Turkmenistan and the OSCE, with particular attention to regional security, economic and environmental cooperation, and humanitarian engagement.
At a meeting with Xiaojun Grace Wang, U.N. resident coordinator in Turkmenistan, the sides discussed priorities for cooperation between Turkmenistan and the United Nations, as well as further coordination and practical development of bilateral engagement. They also focused on upcoming joint events and promoting Turkmenistan’s international initiatives within the U.N.
Meredov also met with Beata Pexa, European Union ambassador to Turkmenistan. They exchanged views on the current state and prospects for further cooperation between Turkmenistan and the EU, as well as international and regional issues. The sides emphasized the importance of continued political dialogue and constructive engagement.
The meetings also highlighted the importance of expanding international cooperation, protecting the environment and preserving the Caspian Sea ecosystem.
