Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ylyas Gayypow, met with Mahmoud Heydari, President of the Equestrian Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran, on August 15, 2026, the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Iran reported.

The sides discussed bilateral cooperation in equestrian sports, as well as events held under the motto “Independent and Neutral Turkmenistan – Homeland of Purposeful Winged Horses.”

During the meeting, Heydari was presented with an invitation to participate in international events dedicated to Akhal-Teke horses, which will be held from September 4–6, 2026, in the Netherlands.

Heydari thanked the Turkmen side for the invitation and noted that, under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan and the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, particular attention is being paid to promoting Turkmen Akhal-Teke horses on the global stage and developing equestrian sports.

The Iranian side also proposed exploring opportunities to establish cooperation between the Aba Annaev International Equestrian Academy and relevant institutions in Iran, as well as organizing joint equestrian competitions in Turkmenistan and Iran.
