Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vepa Hajiyev, met with Per Lillier, Director of the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) office to the UN., in New York on August 19 to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, the Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the UN reported.

During the meeting the sides exchanged views on opportunities to develop cooperation between Turkmenistan and the IOM and outlined potential areas for future collaboration.

They also discussed recent developments in the region, as well as humanitarian and migration-related issues.

Earlier, on August 12, Turkmen Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov met with Serhan Aktoprak, head of the IOM mission in Kazakhstan and IOM regional coordinator for Central Asia. The sides identified migration management, protection of migrants’ rights and regional cooperation as priority areas.
