Turkmen President Offers Condolences Over Death of Norwegian King

Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a letter of condolence to King Haakon VIII of Norway over the death of His Majesty King Harald V, Turkmenistan’s official media reported Sunday.

“King Harald V worked for many years with profound wisdom and responsibility for Norway’s consistent development and the strengthening of unity among its people,” President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted in the letter.

Head of the state expressed his heartfelt condolences and words of support to King Haakon VIII, the royal family and the people of Norway on behalf of the people and government of Turkmenistan, as well as himself, during this difficult time.

King Harald V was born on Feb. 21, 1937, in Asker, Norway. He ascended the Norwegian throne on Jan. 17, 1991, following the death of his father, King Olav V. According to official information from the Royal House of Norway, King Harald V died on Aug. 28, 2026.
