During a meeting between Turkmenistan’s Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Mammedov and Georgia’s Minister of Education, Science and Youth Givi Mikanadze, on September 1, the Georgian side proposed exploring the possibility of opening a branch of one of Georgia’s higher education institutions in Turkmenistan, according to the Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Education.
During the meeting, the Georgian side put forward several initiatives aimed at further expanding cooperation. In addition to exploring the possibility of opening a branch of one of Georgia’s higher education institutions in Turkmenistan, it proposed expanding opportunities for Turkmen youth to study at Georgian higher education institutions, holding an education exhibition of Georgian higher education institutions in Turkmenistan, and supporting and financing joint scientific projects.
The sides discussed expanding direct ties between educational and scientific institutions, implementing reached agreements, and developing academic exchanges, joint educational and scientific programs, and exchanges of experience between teachers and students.
Youth cooperation issues were also discussed, including organizing summer camps alternately in the two countries, student exchanges and meetings of young scientists, as well as developing joint educational, scientific and innovative projects.
The sides also noted the importance of establishing a Turkmen-Georgian Working Group on cooperation in education. It is envisaged that the group will operate at the level of deputy education ministers of the two countries, discuss joint initiatives and projects and coordinate the implementation of agreements reached.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides confirmed their readiness to further develop mutually beneficial cooperation in education, science and youth policy, expand direct ties and implement specific joint initiatives.
