Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, National Leader of the Turkmen people and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, attended an open meeting of the International Association of Akhal-Teke Horse Breeding as part of the world championship for beauty and equestrian sports among Akhal-Teke horses being held in the Netherlands. In his remarks, Berdimuhamedov proposed considering holding major international equestrian events and championships of this kind once every five years at the international level, according to a representative of the Business Turkmenistan online publication attending the event.
In his remarks, the National Leader of the Turkmen people noted that the current event in Kronenberg has brought together equestrian associations from many countries, saying it provides a good opportunity to establish close relations among Akhal-Teke horse lovers, specialists in the field and like-minded people.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed the need to establish systematic areas of cooperation at the level of international associations and proposed coordinating educational and research activities and exchanging specific historical materials and information.
Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also noted the importance of expanding the participation of Akhal-Teke horses in major competitions in world equestrian sport. In this regard, he stressed the need to develop programs for training young horses and preparing them for show jumping based on international standards.
The events being held in Kronenberg, Netherlands, are organized to mark 2026, the Year of “Independent, Permanently Neutral Turkmenistan — Homeland of purposeful winged horses,” and widely showcase in Europe the Turkmen people's love for Akhal-Teke horses. The broad program includes beauty and dressage competitions for Akhal-Teke horses of different ages, show jumping, a scientific and practical conference, international exhibitions and other events. Demonstration performances by the Galkynysh national equestrian games team and a concert featuring representatives of Turkmen culture and art are also being held.
